Blessed to be a Blessing

Blessed to Be a Blessing

I will make you a great nation; I will bless you and make your name great; and you shall be a blessing. . . . And in you all the families of the earth shall be blessed. Genesis 12:2-3

Recommended Reading – 1 Peter 3:8-11

The next time you cut open a fruit or vegetable, pause to marvel at the abundance of seeds it contains. Plants represent the marvelous abundance of nature! God blessed His creation so it could “be fruitful and multiply” (Genesis 1:28; 9:1). Even our own blessing of regeneration and salvation is to become a source of blessing to others.

The idea of “blessed to be a blessing” is seen earliest and most clearly in God’s calling of Abraham. God didn’t call Abraham out of Mesopotamia just to give him a richer life in Canaan. Yes, Abraham was blessed personally, but there was a greater purpose: “In you all the families of the earth shall be blessed” (Genesis 12:3). And Peter explains that since we were called to “inherit a blessing,” we are to repay others “with blessing” (1 Peter 3:9). Even when others mistreat us, we are to return to them a blessing. We repay with blessings as God has blessed us, regardless of how others treat us.

Ask God to make you aware of a person in need of the blessing of God through you today.

Too many Christians are stuffing themselves with Gospel blessings, while millions have never had a taste.
