Now Joshua the son of Nun was full of the spirit of wisdom, for Moses had laid his hands on him.

Greg Rubar, a waiter at an Italian restaurant in Houston, served a particular couple many times over eight years. One day they left him an unusual tip-fifty $100 bills. Greg tried to return the money, but the two customers told him to take it and buy himself a car. It turned out they knew Greg had recently lost his car in a flood, and they wanted to help him in gratitude for his years of serving them.
If customers and acquaintances can be generous in expressing gratitude, shouldn’t we seize every opportunity to thank those who have meant the most to us? That certainly includes our spiritual mentors. Someone prayed for you before you were saved. Someone — perhaps several — were instrumental in leading you to Christ. Someone taught you the Bible. Someone showed you how to pray. Someone guided you into personal ministry and taught you to serve.
Joshua was full of wisdom because Moses had laid his hands on him. Who has laid their hands on you? Have you ever thanked them for their influence? You don’t have to buy them a car. Just a word of thanksgiving will do.
